All children want to know where they come from.
But how do we put it into words for a child to understand?
One rainy day Aden asks his Mom, “Where did I live before I lived here?”
When she reminds him of the apartment on Cherry Street, he curiously asks where he lived before that.
“Well,” she says, “you lived in Mommy’s belly.”
“What?” Aden explodes with excitement and questions. Together they relive stories from his childhood, and see how the baby Aden once was inside his mother’s womb is just like the boy he is now, only bigger and more adventurous.
What makes this book special...
Before Cherry Street is perfect for parents who are expecting another child, or for families who want a fun and medically accurate way of explaining how a baby grows inside his or her mother’s belly. Inspiration
Children are such a big part of my life. Over the years I've had the privilege of being Auntie Erin to twelve wonderful kids, talking to them in their mothers' bellies, feeling their kicks, and being a part of their incredible journey from tiny pre-natal children, to the big boys and girls they are today. These little treasure in my life are smart and curious; they want to know things, like where they come from. They are also unique. Each one has special abilities, and special needs. Each child develops differently, learns differently, and faces his or her own set of challenges.
I was inspired to write "Before Cherry Street" to help them understand the miraculous journey that their brothers, sisters, cousins, and each one of us goes on before we are actually born. This book was meant to help them understand just how much we grow, learn and discover even before we ever "pop out" into the world. But it was also meant to show them that we are all still in stages of development. Things that may be a struggle for them now, might not be when they are older. And that's OK. We are all growing and learning and on an incredible journey that is uniquely our own.
